Join Elaina Merlis, a cancer survivor, personal chef and author, as she teaches us that a plant-based diet can still provide all the protein we need. Recent studies suggest that plant protein may provide beneficial health effects and that replacement of red and processed meat protein with plant protein may increase longevity. However, many people don’t know to how to get enough protein from their food when following a vegetarian or vegan diet.
What Will I Learn?
Elaina, whose recent book, “Earth’s Bounty—Healing Wisdom of Healthy Food” illustrates how she took control of her health through food, will demonstrate the many ways we can get protein from plants, thereby avoiding unhealthy protein sources and protecting the earth all at the same time! Elaina will share how she grew up the granddaughter of a kosher butcher and how her battle with cancer caused her to re-think what she thought she knew about food. While not a dietician or nutritionist, Elaina will explain what she has learned from professionals and her own investigation regarding plant-based protein sources. We will also be exposed to new ideas for including protein in our daily food intake. The class will include tasty samples and a demonstration of one recipe. Autographed copies of Elaina’s book will also be available for purchase.
